Pride is here! PQ’s Pride issue hits the streets tomorrow, and has an (almost overwhelmingly) extensive listing of almost every single Pride-related event around town. I thought I’d use this week’s Wednesday Weekend Forecast to highlight a few of the events that I’m pretty excited about. Keep in mind, gentle readers, that everyone has a Pride event of some sort, and that I can’t highlight them all here. (Send hate mail to email@example.com.):
Thursday, June 14
Kick off Pride in style at the PQ Monthly Press Party, featuring music by DJ Tank Top, tarot readings by Tarot Chick, spa services by Emerge Medical Spa, and the PQ Pink Tart drink special. (5-7:00 p.m., Vendetta, 4306 N. Williams, 21+, free!) After you’ve had your fill of PQ Pink Tarts, feel free to mosey on over to Old Town for the Pride Comedy Showcase, featuring comedy by Sandra Valls, Xander Deveaux, Whitney Streed, and Belinda Carroll. (7-9:00 p.m., Star Theatre, 13 NW 6th, 21+, $20-30, pridenw.org.) If you’re ready to keep the party going, there’s only one place you need to be: Queerlandia: Last Year Best Year Part III. Hosted by Serendipity Jones, with DJ sets from Hold My Hand, Chelsea Starr, Huf N Stuf, and Orographic; performances by Carla Rossi and her Doomsday Vabaret, Austin Tatious & Dede Desperate, Ash Kenazi, Charlie Walker, Georgia Ray Babycakes, Just Mr & Sleazy E, Kaj-anne Pepper, Kitty Morena, Little Tommy Bang Bang, Sally Ingus Wilder, and Serendipity Jones; gogo dancing by Austin Tatious and Dede Desperate; photobooth by Wayne Bund Photography. (9:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m., Embers, 110 NW Broadway, 21+, $5, Facebook.com/QlandiaPDX.)
Friday-Sunday, June 15-17
Portland Pride Waterfront Festival! Friday night is the Pulse! Dance Party with DJ Tony Moran (6-10:00 p.m.), Saturday and Sunday are the big days to head down to the festival (open Noon-6:00 p.m. both days), but don’t forget to visit PQ at the PABA Village ’cause we’ve got the newest issue, hot off the press, PQ tattoos, prizes, a dice game (and I hear Miss Renee might even stop by to do some readings). Waterfront Park (SW Pine St. and the Morrison Bridge); $7 suggested donation, $50 VIP; all ages; Pridenw.org.
Friday, June 15
There are a handful of parties battling it out for your late night attention, including TrikoneNW BollyQ Pride Filmistan with DJ Anjali & The Kid (9:00 p.m., Someday Lounge, 125 NW 5th, 21+, $5, anjaliandthekid.com), Have a Heart on 3 (9:00 p.m., Crush, 1400 SE Morrison, 21+, $3, crushbar.com), Bearracuda (9:00 p.m., Red Cap Garage, 1025 SW Stark, 21+, $6, bearracuda.com), Gaycation (9:00 p.m., Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, 21+, $5, Facebook.com/gaycation), and Gaylabration (9:30 p.m., Leftbank Annex, 101 N. Saturday, June 16
This day is packed with places to be and be seen. Scandals shuts down Stark St. with their block party Prophecy: Taking Pride on Stark 2012 featuring DJ sets by Grant, StormyRoxx, and Robb; performances by Peacock Productions, Acoustic Minds, Saturday Night Orphans, and Funkcaucus-All Star Band. (2:00 p.m.-Midnight, Scandals, 1125 SW Stark, 21+, $5, scandalspdx.com.) Other events of the day include History is a Drag! LGBTQ Youth Dance Party (7-10:00 p.m., Montavilla Community Center, 8219 NE Glisan, ages 13-19, free, Facebook.com/montevillaCC), Pride NW Official Inferno Party (8:00 p.m., Refuge, 116 SE Yamhill, 21+, $11-15, Infernodances.com), (my personal favorite) Hey Girl Hey: Queer Pride (9:00 p.m., Plan B, 1305 SE 8th, 21+, $10, heygirlheyqueer.tumblr.com), Second Annual Pride Dollhouse (9:00 p.m., Hamburger Mary’s, 19 NW 5th, 21+, $3, Hamburgermarys.com/pdx), and Crossover Pride: The Extravaganza! (10:00 p.m., P Club, 5264 N Lombard, 21+, $10).
Sunday, June 17
So yes. It’s parade day. But before the parade, we’ve got the Dykes and Allies on Bikes Breakfast (8:30 a.m., Dingo’s, 4700 SE Hawthorne, $5) and the Pride Parade Pre-Party (9:00 a.m., Embers, 110 NW Broadway, 21+, free). I would also imagine that the crowds will begin to gather over at Big Bang: A Take Pride Party, because it’s a great parade spot, and the party keeps going ’til the sun don’t shine. (11:00 a.m.-Midnight, NW 5th and Couch, $5-25, all ages until 5 p.m., 21+ after, bigbangpdx.com). The 2012 Gay Pride Parade steps out at 11:30 a.m. (visit pridenw.org for parade details), but then what to do? Head down to the Waterfront Festival? Or how about… Party City: Red Cap’s Eighth Annual Block Party (1:00 p.m., Red Cap/Boxxes, 1025 SW Stark, $15-40, boxxes.com), Prophecy is still going strong (all weekend long… look up!), Hot Meat Tea Dance (4-8:00 p.m., Hawks PDX, 234 SE Grand, 18+, free, hawksPDX.com), but you really should end the night at GREEDY: Bi Pride and Genderf**king Takeover’s Official Block Party/Sharon Needles After Party (8:00 p.m., Yes and No, 20 NW 3rd, 21+, free).
I’m exhausted just thinking about it. And I have an 8-month-old baby screaming right next to me.
We want to have our calendar be the most extensive (and accurate) place for you to get information on queer events in town, but we need your help! If you would like to submit an event to our online calendar, you can now do it through this form on our web site. If you want to be included in our print edition of the calendar, send an e-mail to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I make no guarantees that I will list your event in the print edition, but I will do my best.
