Two transgender women were allegedly assaulted Tuesday night near Northwest Second Avenue and Burnside Street, police reported June 28. Portland Police arrested 50-year-old Reginald Ferdinand McGhee on charges of Assault in the Fourth Degree and Intimidation in the First Degree (a bias crime).

Police responded to a disturbance report at 9:18 p.m. June 26. The victims — Mya Rose Wolf-Black, 30, and Jacqueline Adams, 23 — came forward after police made contact with McGhee, who complained that two people pepper sprayed him.

Wolf-Black, who sustained minor injuries to one of her arms, and Adams told police that McGhee yelled anti-gay slurs at them, removed his belt, and began to swing its large metal buckle at them. Adams was not injured.

The suspect ran from police but was eventually caught about four blocks away. McGhee was booked in the Multnomah County Jail Tuesday night and released on his own recognizance early Wednesday morning.

PQ will continue to follow this story and report back. If you have information about this incident to share, email [email protected]
