A 23-year-old man is in the Multnomah County Jail after allegedly chasing after his ex-boyfriend and biting a police officer, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Justin Robert Hale was arrested at about 9:35 p.m. Monday night after police responded to a report of a fight near SW 5th Ave and Main Street.

According to a release:

Officers arrived in the area and located the man, 23-year-old Justin Robert Hale, who was screaming, flailing his arms, and running down the street after another man.

As the officers contacted Hale, he turned towards one of the officers and began fighting with him. Hale bit the officer on the upper arm on the outside of his uniform. The officer used his Taser to gain control of the violent suspect, but it only had a minor effect. Several other officers arrived and gained control of the suspect and got him into custody.

Officers determined that the man Hale was chasing down the street was his former boyfriend.

Hale’s bite did not break the barrier of the uniform shirt or penetrate the officer’s skin.

Hale has been charged with Harassment (Domestic Violence), Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree. He is currently being held on $11,500 bail.
