For the fourth year, GLAPN (Gay & Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest) and Q Center are teaming up for Queer Heroes NW, to name a queer hero for every day in June.
The project honors individuals and groups, including straight allies, who have been significant in the movement for LGBTQ equality in the Pacific Northwest, especially in Oregon.
Queer Heroes NW is community-driven. Nominations are collected through GLAPN’s and Q Center’s web pages through the month of March. A committee composed largely of previous Queer Heroes makes the selections, based on the criteria of risk, sacrifice, service, example, and inspiration
A poster is made for each Queer Hero, and the posters are displayed in Q Center’s Aaron Hall Gallery following a reception, open to the public, on Thursday, June 11, from 5-7PM at Q Center.
A duplicate display will go to Portland Pride, and then circulate among other community Pride events in the Northwest.
Nominations are open at http://www.glapn.org/9060QueerHeroesMain.html, where there are also links to the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Heroes displays.
