By Nick Mattos, PQ Monthly

2013 was quite the year in music, wasn’t it? So many great albums and singles came out that it was quite a challenge to nail down an end-of-year list of our favorites. Here, presented for your consideration, is PQ’s list of our favorite albums of the year. We don’t profess that these fit some sort of empirical standard for the “best” music — frankly, we disagree with anyone who claims that such a standard exists — but these were the albums that captured our attention most fully during an awesome year. With no further ado…

1) Zebra Katz, DRKLNG

2) Agnes Obel, Aventine

3) James Blake, Overgrown

4) Dustin Kensrue, The Water and the Blood

5) Burial, Rival Dealer

6) X Ambassadors, Love Songs Drug Songs

7) Natasha Kmeto, Crisis

8) Grouper, The Man Who Died In His Boat

9) Escondido, The Ghost of Escondido
