Gaylabration is coming

By Olivia Olivia, PQ Monthly

This year’s Portland Pride is gearing up to celebrate its sixth annual Gaylabration – a dance party, fundraiser, and official Pride Northwest Festival event to be held this Saturday to celebrate the diversity of love and relationships in our communities. This massive dance party will feature performances from DJ DrewG, Orographic, LYFE Dance Company, and Revol Artists, along with lighting and gorgeous effects by Portland Productions.

The first Gaylabration was launched in 2011, following the passage of marriage equality legislation in New York, as a way to celebrate love and a community victory. While the United States continued to deny same-sex couples in Oregon and throughout the nation the right to marry, our community chose to unite once again in celebration and support. Gaylabration has now evolved to become the featured Saturday night dance party of Portland Pride weekend and therefore expanded its mission to include enhancing the dance music scene by bringing in premier DJs and production.

This community celebration happens this Saturday, June 18 at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland, on the corner of 13th and West Burnside. The show goes from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m, with tickets running $15 presale, $20 day of, $50 VIP, $60 VIP day of. Entry is also included through Portland Black Pride VIP Passes, which can be purchased by emailing PortlandBlackPride@gmail.com.
